Stop Scams UK: mission and vision

We want to prevent the harm and loss caused by scams. We achieve this by bringing together responsible businesses to stop scams at source.

Stop Scams UK is an industry-led collaboration between financial services, telecoms and tech sectors to build solutions to stop scams before they cause harm. Our members include Google, Meta, all the UK’s big retail banks, and major telcos. Collectively our members deliver over 97% of UK current bank accounts, 90% of online search, 80% of online advertising and 33% of mobile phone connections. The potential impact of this collective is enormous.

We are a sector-neutral, not-for-profit private company, funded by our members. We work closely with the regulators, Ofcom, FCA and ICO as well as Government Departments, Home Office, DSIT and Treasury. Our work stops scams through our product delivery and leadership; R&D to find new ways to stop scams; and wider stakeholder engagement.

We have sophisticated, high-profile members from 3 different sectors and interact with stakeholders at the highest levels of government. We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach and practical thinking: we deliver impact and drive change.

We are seeking a Press and Events co-ordinator. This is an important position reporting into the Head of Communications and working in close collaboration with the Policy and Communications Officer, Executive Assistant and Membership Director.

About the role

The Communications and Policy Coordinator will play a pivotal role in shaping Stop Scams UK’s voice and influence. You will support the development and delivery of our communications strategy, manage day-to-day media and stakeholder engagement, deliver events and forums and contribute to policy research and advocacy that strengthens the fight against scams.

Key Responsibilities

Communications

• Support the Head of Communications to plan and deliver against the Communications Strategy on behalf of SSUK and members.

• Actively participate in communications planning to support a vibrant and engaging approach.

• Draft press releases, blogs, newsletters, and social media content – providing a consistency of voice and a drumbeat of timed communications

• Manage media monitoring tools including Meltwater to report to SSUK management and stakeholders on media reach

• Manage Stop Scams UK’s website and digital channels, ensuring content is timely and engaging.

• Act as first point of contact for media engagement, including responding to press enquiries and preparing briefing materials able to provide high level overviews of SSUK and identify who the right person in the organisation is to complete the query

• Act as first point of contact on everyday enquiries around communications and events for SSUK members and core stakeholders.

• Coordinate campaigns to support members in their media and campaign activities.

Event planning, coordination and support

• Support the Account and Membership Director to develop a calendar of touch points with members, potential members and stakeholders

• Lead role in organising events, roundtables, and stakeholder meetings – including effective communication to attendees, logistics and follow up engagement

• Evaluate event success and prepare post-event reports with feedback and recommendations.

• Maintain strong working relationships with member organisations and partners including keeping CRM and reports up to date with a positive understanding of their wants and needs.

• Provide administrative and project support to the wider team as required.

Person Specification

Essential

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a marketing, communications or press role.

• Confident and adaptable to new situations, people and environments

• Confident to speak to senior stakeholders alongside peers.

• Ability to manage both tight timelines and long term goals.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.

• Experience in communications, public affairs, or policy (ideally within a charity, trade body, or public sector environment).

• Ability to analyse complex information and present it clearly and persuasively.

• Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams and with external partners.

• Strong organisational and project management skills, and able to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.

Desirable

• Knowledge of fraud, scams, or consumer protection policy.

• Experience working with media and journalists.

• Familiarity with digital communications tools (e.g. CMS, social media scheduling, analytics).
