You may have seen a fair few payrolls scandals in the media recently. Australia is now known as the land of droughts, flooding rains and payroll mistakes!

In 2018, we learnt that 72% of the 243 food businesses audited by the Fair Work Ombudsman in Glebe, Richmond and Fortitude Valley were non-compliant. We also learnt that retail giant Lush Cosmetics has underpaid 5,000 staff around $2m over the past 8 years.  And this is after the 7-Eleven debacle we’ve seen blow up in the media. 2019 also bought it’s own fun and games with the George Calombaris scandal, who was sacked from MasterChef because he was underpaying staff at his restaurants by nearly $8m! 

But the real question is, why does this keep happening? Our CEO and founder, Ben Thompson, used to be a top Employment Lawyer and helped thousands of Australian businesses to manage employment for nearly two decades. This was one of his driving forces behind creating Employment Hero in the first place.
